2 Months Gluten Free

Today marks the end of the second month of eating a completely gluten free diet.  Well, maybe I should say that this marks the second month of unintentionally eating anything with gluten in it.  I knew that this would be a challenge to adjust my eating habits, but I had no idea that gluten hid lurking in so many of the foods I expected to still be eating.  Licorice, soy sauce, flavored potato chips, salad dressing, and the list goes on and on.

Thankfully, we live in an age that hinges on technology.  I found an app that I use daily.  Shopwell (http://www.shopwell.com/mobileapp) is great!  It allows you create your profile and enter in any dietary restrictions that you may follow.  From there, you just scan any old bar code and it will give you a red, yellow, or green light for the item.  Green lights honestly don't grace my screen all that often as the foods are rated based on your priorities.  My profile looks for gluten first and from there checks added sugar, preservatives, fat, sulfites, etc.  It's a pretty handy app and has honestly saved me a couple of times from what I am sure would be digestional misery.  It helps take out the guessing when trying to translate all of the unpronounceable ingredients in food anymore.

I plan to use this blog to chronicle the rest of my way on the gluten free journey.  Stick with me and I'll share (probably too much) all that I learn along the way and hopefully share some great recipes too.
